Gameplay and Tips Guide for Baldur’s Gate 3 (Part 1)

Gameplay Tips

1. Vulnerable/ground environment

There are various ground and special effects in the game that can bring about a substantial increase in damage, so you must master this technique.

-Using a priest’s water-making spell/throwing a water bottle to add a wet effect and then using lightning to attack will double the damage.

– Directly attacking the water surface will make the water become electrified, and anyone who enters the water will be damaged by lightning.

-Will be vulnerable to cold spells when wet.

You can use various spells and props to change the environment (ground) effects.

-Using fire to melt ice can make it melt.

-Freezing water can freeze it (and also make the electrified effect disappear).

-To remove various ground effects, the Thorn Bush spell is the most powerful. Basically, any ground effect can be covered by the Thorn Bush spell.

2. Create an advantageous situation

① Raid/Sequencing

A raid is the simplest way to create an advantage at the start, and a successful raid can greatly simplify the battle.

– Attacking after stealth can achieve surprise attack, and the word “frightened” will be displayed above the enemy’s head. Surprise attack can also let you move first for one round, which is an advantage over the enemy.

-As long as all enemies cannot see you, such as launching ranged and magic attacks from above or out of sight, you can also cause a surprise attack.

-It is best to use a rogue to trigger the raid.

When the action order of your characters is adjacent, you can use the character avatars on the top action bar to arbitrarily arrange the action order of the adjacent characters.

For example, let the priest who was supposed to move later move first, activate the water creation spell to create humid conditions, making the subsequent electric attack vulnerable.

② Height difference

-You can always carry a crate, which is not too heavy. When needed, you can stack three of them together to create a height difference, and you can just jump up. It is very practical for shooters.

-In the game, attacking a high place from a low place is a disadvantage, so these boxes have both offensive and defensive capabilities.

-Note that even if the boxes are misplaced, they can be stacked up as long as they are slightly adjacent. You can even use many boxes to make a path (laughs). Then sneak to the box path and throw heavy objects and javelins from above to hurt the enemy.

– Another point is that although there is a bonus at a high altitude, it is not an “advantage” in terms of judgment. Don’t treat it as a condition for gaining an advantage when attacking from a high altitude.

Use the mouse wheel to adjust the direction, as objects thrown from high altitudes can cause great damage.

③ Create excellence

When you gain an advantage, you can take the larger value with both dice, which will bring you very high returns. We should try our best to use various conditions to create advantages. The following are various means of creating advantages.

– Stealth, invisibility spells, invisibility potions, as long as the enemy can’t see you, you will have an advantage when attacking.

-Spells like blinding, darkness, and fog.

-Push down, trip with weapons, push enemies down from heights, slip on ice, slip on grease, etc., to make the enemy fall to the ground. Melee attacks on fallen enemies will give you an advantage.

-When in the immobilized or unbalanced state, spell attacks have an advantage.

-Tracer bullets, demon fire, and priest clones can give the whole team an advantage.

– Class abilities, such as Barbarian Reckless Attack, Sleight of Hand, etc.

-Flanking the enemy.

④Avoid disadvantages

Advantages and disadvantages do not stack. No matter how many advantages and disadvantages you have, they are only counted once. Just one disadvantage will cancel out the advantage (and vice versa), no matter how many advantages you have.

Therefore, in addition to creating advantages, we must also avoid disadvantages. Try to avoid the following behaviors:

-Using armor and weapons that you don’t have proficiency with.

-Wear heavy armor while cloaked.

-Stand on ice, grease, etc.

-The enemy approaches the mage or archer (the solution is to retreat, push the enemy away, and then attack).

-Being flanked by enemies.

– Strike enemies on high ground.

-Out of range of long-range attacks (how to deal with it – standing higher can increase the range).

-Attack enemies in darkness or that are invisible (spells such as Light will make them visible).

⑤ Manufacturing disadvantages

If we cannot create an advantage, then putting the enemy at a disadvantage is also beneficial to us. We should use the following tactics:

-Stay close to the enemy’s ranged and spell-casting professions as much as possible to make them suffer attack disadvantages.

-Adds a blindness spell effect to the enemy. This is why blindness is more useful. We have an advantage when attacking blind enemies, which is equivalent to a two-way benefit.

– Poison the enemy (you can increase the possibility of poisoning by making it bleed or reducing its physical bonus). Physical professions have good benefits from poisoning attacks.

– Use boxes to pad the ground with height differences, and then throw oil bottles to create difficult terrain, so that the enemy is in a bad terrain environment.
