Digital Foundry recently launched a new “DF Direct” paid subscription video. After watching the video, Twitter user “Ben” revealed that the video mentioned some inside stories of Rockstar’s “Red Dead Redemption” during its initial development.
According to “Ben”, Digital Foundry said in the video that the PS3 version was not included in the plan until the late stage of the development of “Red Dead Redemption”. And a Rockstar employee revealed that the original maps of the game were all designed for the Xbox 360 console.
However, Shumaoshe officially responded to this, saying that the statement in the “Direct” video was not accurate enough. The original meaning was that the map in the game was created before the development of the PS3 version, not that the PS3 version was added to the plan later.
Later, Obbe Vermeij, former technical director of Rockstar (who left the studio in 2009), also responded to the tweet, saying: “Xbox 360 uses DirectX, which means that the hardware is hidden behind the software layer, making it easy to write code for 360. In order to make the PS3 perform well, developers must go to a very low level and program it in the programming language of the graphics chip. This is difficult and time-consuming. That’s why it made more sense for us (at the time) to prioritize the development of the 360 version.”
Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption will be released on PC on October 29th.
