It has been nearly two months since the official release of “Black Myth: Wukong”. However, during this period, various news about this game or its developer Game Science has never stopped. Recently, a lot of new data and new trends of the game have been released.
First, last weekend, according to the latest data from Steam statistics platform Gamalytic, Game Science has ranked 12th on Steam’s top publisher list, surpassing well-known manufacturers such as Capcom, CD Projekt Red, FromSoftware and Larian Studios.
It is reported that the ranking of the list is based on the integrated calculation of the game revenue of the corresponding manufacturers on the Steam platform. At present, Game Science has a total revenue of more than 1 billion US dollars (about 7.071 billion yuan) with “Black Myth: Wukong” and “Art of War: Red Tides” released in December 2016. The top three manufacturers are Valve, Krafton and EA, with corresponding revenues of 10.7 billion US dollars, 4.3 billion US dollars and 3.2 billion US dollars.
It is worth noting that “Art of War: Red Tides” is a multi-platform strategy game, and its mobile version has been discontinued on May 31, 2022.
In addition to the good news on market data, “Black Myth” has also received new support in market expansion. In late August, Diandian Chuhai reported that although the PS5 version of the game was launched simultaneously around the world, Taiwan has become a relatively special region. At that time, although it was available in the Taiwan PS5 store, it could not be pre-ordered. After the countdown to the launch, it showed the words “published” and could be added to the wish list, but then clicking on the store page would show that the game had been removed from the shelves, and “Black Myth” in the player’s wish list was also removed from the list.
The above situation was initially questioned by some players as being caused by political factors, but Taiwan soon stated that before the proposed company represented mainland games in Taiwan, it was necessary to list the basic information of the game on the “Digital Entertainment Software Rating Query Network” and submit relevant documents (including the agency contract signed with the original manufacturer, the agency operation statement, the agency company information description, the server test report and flow description, etc.). If the information is complete, it can be approved within 1 month.
However, before “Black Myth” was officially launched, Game Science did not fully confirm the cooperation with the current agent Titan Entertainment to sign an agency contract. Fortunately, the two parties later reached a cooperative relationship.
The latter submitted relevant documents on September 5, 9, and 10, but was required to be modified by the “Digital Industry Administration” on the grounds that “the website login agency period is inconsistent with the agency operation statement” and “the official website rating label problem”.
Today, there was news that Titan Entertainment submitted all the documents to the Taiwan authorities on October 9 (submitted 3 versions for review, namely PC, PS5 and PSN versions, with the level of “auxiliary 15”), and passed the review on the 11th, allowing the game to be officially launched in Taiwan.
